The video shows the evolution of self-sustained nonlinear scrolling waves in a three-dimensional cube of sizes 50x50x50 cells. They are solutions of nonlinear Hodgkin-Huxley differential equations describing the passage of a nerve impulse along a membrane fiber. The nearest membrane fibers have gap junctions with a conductivity of D = 0.2 micro Siemens. If so, the nervous excitement having passed through these gap junctions induces the excitation in the nearest fibers, and so on. As a result, a self-reproducing effect of expanding scroll wave activity can begin in such an excitable structure linked by the gap junctions. The work has been done by Leon Chua, Hyongsuk Kim, and Valeriy Sbitnev. The video is accompanied by a melody from the song "falling, falling, falling leaves", written by Alexander Buinov
